CHENNAI: Two A-category rowdies with history sheet records in Madipakkam suffered fractures in their hands while attempting to escape from a police team that tried to arrest them on Saturday.
The police team, led by Madipakkam crime wing inspector Kannan, was searching for ‘Coach’ Kumaran and Babloo Shanmugam as they are suspected to be involved in active rowdyism in the area. They demanded bribes from building promoters. Based on a specific tip off, the team kept tracking their movements.
The two were staying on the terrace of an under-construction building, and the team cornered them early on Friday. Two policemen alone climbed onto the terrace to apprehend them. On noticing the policemen approaching them, the duo scaled the wall and tried to escape. However, they broke their hands after falling to the ground. The police team nabbed the two and took them to the govt hospital for treatment. Madipakkam police registered a case and arrested the duo. After they were produced before a magistrate court in the city, the two were remanded in judicial custody.
Madipakkam assistant commissioner of police Purushothaman said, “Coach Kumaran and Babloo Shanmugam were involved in half a dozen cases each, including one murder, attempted murder cases, and hurt cases.”
