CHENNAI: Two petting zones in the city were shut down by the forest department on Friday based on complaints from Resident Welfare Associations in ECR.

The first one, Junglii in Injambakkam, lied to the department about not allowing petting of animals, according to a source. "Junglii claimed they were a pet shop. So, we closed public access to animals' space alone," said E Prashant, Chennai's wildlife warden. "Junglii also claimed that the 400 tickets were refundable, which we are sure is a lie," he added.

The second one at Panaiyur, Faunus Park, houses birds and reptiles.

It has been shut because it didn't have establishment licences, mainly the FSSAI licence.
