Two of three on bike die in road accident

Two Industrial Training Institute (ITI) graduates were killed and their friend suffered injuries when a blue metal-laden lorry rammed their bike on the Sathyavedu-Kavarapet Main Road in Tiruvallur on Thursday morning.

CHENNAI: Two Industrial Training Institute (ITI) graduates were killed and their friend suffered injuries when a blue metal-laden lorry rammed their bike on the Sathyavedu-Kavarapet Main Road in Tiruvallur on Thursday morning.
The deceased were identified as D Thiagarajan (23) and his friend C Yuvaraj of Thervai. Yuvaraj had started working in a company only last Monday.

Their friend M Sridhar (19), who was pursuing a course at the Central Polytechnic in Taramani, escaped with injuries. He has been admitted to the Stanley Medical College Hospital. The three were on the same bike and none of them was wearing a helmet.
The police said the youths were going from Sathyavedu to Kavarapet. Two lorries were heading in the opposite direction. One of the lorries tried to avoid an oncoming concrete mixer truck and took a sharp turn. Another truck which was closely following the blue metal-laden lorry passed through the gap and collided with the bike which was behind the concrete-laden truck.
The youths were thrown off the bike in the impact. Thiagarajan and Yuvaraj were crushed to death on the spot. The lorry drivers abandoned the vehicles and fled the scene. On information, the police reached the scene. A hunt has been launched for the drivers. The bodies were sent to Tiruvallur General Hospital for autopsy.
