TIRUVANNAMALAI: Two

quacks

, including a retired health inspector, were nabbed in Tiruvannamalai during a raid on Wednesday.

Joint director of health services, Tiruvannamalai,

Dr P Girija

and her subordinates conducted a surprise check at a clinic at Keelnatchipattu here around 10am.

The team found retired health inspector Krishnamoorthy, 64, running the clinic and practising

allopathy

. The officials seized drugs, stethoscope and syringe from the clinic.

Inquiries revealed that Krishnamoorthy had been running the clinic since his retirement. He had been working at a primary health centre and retired eight years ago.

“Collector (Prashant M Wadnere) directed us to conduct a raid following a complaint against Krishnamoorthy and his son Senthil, who were not qualified to practise allopathy,” said a health department official.

The team, however, let off Senthil as he was very sick.

Officials caught another quack based on information given by Krishnamoorthy. The quack, Natarajan of Notchimalai, has been running a mobile clinic for five years.

“He is available on phone. Once he gets the phone call, he will reach a patient’s house or a nearby area to treat him or her,” the official said.

The officials found syringes and medicines in his bike’s box.

The duo were handed over to the Tiruvannamalai East police.

As many as 48 quacks have been caught in Tiruvannamalai since Dr Girija assumed charge in October last year.
