Two international flights diverted from Chennai to Bengaluru due to fog
CHENNAI: Two international flights – one from Kuala Lumpur and the other from Dubai -- could not land at Chennai airport on Wednesday morning due to poor visibility caused by fog and were diverted to Bengaluru.
An Air Asia flight from Kuala Lumpur with 152 passengers on board was scheduled to land in Chennai at 7.25am. However, due to extreme foggy conditions, the flight communicated its concern about landing, citing poor visibility, after which it was diverted to Bengaluru. The flight was scheduled to return to Chennai late in the evening. Chennai-bound passengers were stranded in Bengaluru.
The flight, originally scheduled to fly to Kuala Lumpur from Chennai at 8.05am, will depart from Chennai at 12.15am on Thursday. Those who reached the airport on Wednesday morning to go to Kuala Lumpur were instructed to return on Wednesday night.
An Emirates flight from Dubai with 254 passengers on board was about to land in Chennai at 8.15am. However, citing the foggy condition, the flight was diverted to Bengaluru. The flight returned to Chennai around 12.40pm and departed to Dubai at 1.20pm, after a delay of more than three hours.
A Chennai-bound British Airways flight from London returned to London after the pilot identified a technical snag midair. The flight, which was to arrive in Chennai at 5.30am, was delayed by eight hours.
