CHENNAI: Two men were arrested on Sunday for impersonating policemen and threatening a regional transport to give them Rs50,000, for not 'proceeding with a case against him'.


The two were identified as Janardhanan, 31, and his brother Ashok Kumar, 29.

Police said regional transport officer in Tiruvallur, Jai Baskar, received a call on Friday. The caller identified himself as an officer from the DVAC unit in Chennai.

The caller informed Baskar that they had received a complaint that he had indulged in corrupt activities. He demanded a sum of 50,000 for not proceeding with thematter. Baskar became suspicious and filed a complaint with Tiruvallur district town police. The caller had sent details of his bank account to the RTO, so that latter can deposit the money in the account. Police traced the duo from the bank account details.
