The deceased, E

Sathish Kumar

alias Babu, 27 and P Arun, 22 were from Nadukuppam, the same locality as that of the accused R Dinesh, 22.

Police said that around 11.30 pm, the three fishermen were drinking after attending a ritual observed for the late mother for one of their friends. An argument broke out between them as they began their dinner. Arun allegedly hurled a slipper at Dinesh’s plate and spoiled the food that he was eating.

In the melee, Arun and Sathish Kumar also slapped Dinesh, who then hurried to his house and returned with a machete and stabbed both Sathish and Arun. The duo collapsed.

Since Dinesh was drunk and was creating a ruckus, the people who had gathered there tried to control him. Sathish was rushed to a nearby private hospital and Arun was taken to the

Government Royapettah Hospital

. Both of them died at the hospitals.

After being alerted by locals, Tiruvanmiyur police rushed to the spot and arrested Dinesh on charges of murder. The machete was seized from him.
