Two die during Chaturthi idol immersion

Tiruvannamalai/Tiruppattur: Two people died in two freak accidents while immersing the idols of Lord Vinayagar following Vinayagar Chaturthi celebrations in Tiruvannamalai and Tiruppattur districts.Police said a 24-year-old man, identified as R Murali from a village near Natrampalli, Tiruppattur district, drowned while immersing an idol at the Pullur check dam near Vaniyambadi.Madankumar, an 18-year-old college student from a village near Chengam in Tiruvannamalai district, fell unconscious when he accidentally came in contact with a short-circuited electronic speaker while making arrangements for the procession to immerse an idol.He was declared dead at a hospital. Two boys drown in Cauvery while immersing idols

Two Class IX students drowned in the Cauvery river near Mettur while trying to immerse Vinayagar idols. The boys, who did not know how to swim, were dragged into the deeper part of the river by a water current. Despite rescue efforts, their bodies were retrieved after a three-hour search. In light of this incident, the Trichy corporation has increased safety measures for idol immersion in the Cauvery river, including additional platforms and barricades. The Tamil Nadu government will continue releasing water from the Mettur reservoir despite Karnataka's refusal.

Trichy police issue traffic advisory for Vinayagar idol immersion

Trichy city police have announced a traffic diversion plan for the Vinayagar Chathurthi idol procession. The diversion will be in effect from 2pm on Wednesday until 6am on Thursday. Buses from various routes will be rerouted to reach the Chathiram bus stand in the city. City buses from different areas will also have alternate routes to reach Srirangam bus stand. Heavy vehicles from Coimbatore and Karur routes heading towards Thanjavur and Pudukkottai will be diverted at Cauvery bridge. The diversion plan aims to ensure smooth traffic flow during the procession.

Arrangements made for idol immersion in Vij

The city police, Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC), and irrigation department have made arrangements for the Ganesh idol immersion in Vijayawada. The VMC is strictly implementing the Mission Krishna Godavari Canals and has passed orders against the immersion of POP idols in irrigation canals. Swachhagrahis have been deployed to prevent people from immersing idols in canals. The VMC has also set up special counters for depositing pooja material. The district administration has deployed expert swimmers for safety during the immersion. In Coimbatore, 15 locations have been designated for idol immersion with eco-friendly guidelines.
