TRICHY: Two men died and eight others suffered injuries when a truck collided with a sport utility vehicle (SUV) near Musiri in

Trichy

district of Tamil Nadu in the early morning hours of Sunday.

The deceased have been identified as P Azhagappan, 45, of Kezhla Sevalpatti in Karaikudi and K Sathish, 19, of Alangudi.

The injured have been identified as Tilak Srinivasan, 38, Sarveswaran, 20, Ramu, 19, Lalitha, 40, Sathish, 8, and Shanmugavalli, 12 (all from Alangudi in Pudukkottai district), truck driver P Selvakumar, 43, of Dalmiapuram in Ariyalur district and his son, Ajithan.

An eight-member troupe, which had been performing bhajans at

Lord Ayyappan

temples in various places in Tamil Nadu, was travelling in the SUV. The troupe had gone to Chennai for performing a bhajan a few days ago. From Chennai, they were going to Coimbatore to participate in a similar event there.

The accident happened around 7am when the SUV was nearing Sevanthilingapuram near Musiri. The truck was going to Dalmiapuram cement factory in Ariyalur.

Sathish, who was driving the SUV, and Azhagappan died on the spot.

All the injured were rushed to Government Hospital in Musiri.

The Musiri police registered a case and further investigations were on.
