Two die as college bus collides with minitruck in Tamil Nadu

THANJAVUR: Two men died when a college bus collided with a minitruck near Kumbakonam in Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu on Monday.

The deceased have been identified as Mohamed Sameer, 27, of Kumbakonam, and Karthi, 28, of Mooppakoil area near Kumbakonam.

The accident happened near Govindapuram when they were transporting flowers from Kumbakonam to Mayiladuthurai on the minitruck.

A front tyre of the college bus -- carrying students from Aaduthurai area -- burst. The bus driver lost control of the vehicle, and it collided head-on with the minivan. Karthi, who was driving the minitruck, and Sameer died on the spot.

Bus driver Muthuraman, 34, and 17 students sustained injuries in the accident.

The Thiruvidaimarudur police rescued the injured people and rushed them to Kumbakonam Government General Hospital. The police registered a case.
