Two Arrested with Methamphetamine in Koyambedu, Police Seize Drugs, Phones and Bike
Chennai: In a targeted operation by the Anti-Narcotics Intelligence Unit (ANIU), two individuals – a college student and a bike taxi rider – were arrested near Koyambedu for illegal possession of methamphetamine. Police seized four grams of the synthetic drug, two mobile phones including a high-end phone, and a motorcycle from the duo during the raid on Thursday. The arrests were made following a tip-off received by the ANIU, prompting officers to maintain surveillance along the Koyambedu–Poonamallee highway stretch. Officers grew suspicious of two young men who were frequently spotted loitering in the area on the same motorcycle. When intercepted for inquiry, the pair reportedly gave evasive and contradictory responses, leading to further questioning and a personal search. The suspects were identified as P Sabari, 24, a native of Ramanathapuram and a part-time bike taxi rider, and M Morris, 20, a college student from Sirkazhi in Mayiladuthurai district. A search revealed that they were carrying methamphetamine in small quantities intended for sale.Following the seizure, the two were handed over to Koyambedu police for further investigation. Preliminary inquiries revealed that the pair sourced methamphetamine from an unidentified main supplier and distributed it in the city. Both men were produced before a magistrate and remanded to judicial custody. Police have launched a search for the absconding supplier believed to be the main link in the drug distribution chain. Further investigation is ongoing.
