Two arrested for killing Chennai-based football player

The incident happened when Hari Kumar, a resident of Perumal Koil Street in Red Hills, employed in a Kerala-based contract firm, had come home for Diwali.

On last Wednesday afternoon, Hari Kumar’s mother, who returned home after visiting a relative’s house, found him lying in a pool of blood. After she cried for help, neighbours took him to a government hospital.

However, on Friday night, Hari Kumar breathed his last at the hospital. Red Hills police, who are investigating the case, arrested P Arputharaj, who lives in the same neighbourhood, on suspicion.

Further investigations revealed that Arputharaj suspected his wife of having an affair with Hari Kumar and allegedly attacked him with an iron rod after the two had an argument over this.

Arputharaj had discussed this to his relative Vasindhar and the duo devised a plan to put an end to the problem. “On Wednesday, Arputharaj and Vasindhar barged into Hari Kumar’s house when he was alone. They picked up a quarrel with him. Following this, the two men attacked him with an iron rod and escaped from the place,” said a police officer.

The duo was produced before a magistrate court which remanded them in judicial custody.
