S Kuberan, who was chief ticketing inspector, was a member of the

Southern Railway Mazdoor Union

(SRMU). A copy of his termination notice dated December 15, issued by Sr divisional commercial manager

B Ravichander

is with TOI.

Kuberan has been served the order based on two charges, which were proved during an enquiry. "You had absented yourself from duty unauthorisedly on February 25 and 26. Though you were marked absent on February 25 in the muster, you had tampered the muster and marked LAP on Febuary 25 and 26," the order stated.

Kuberan had participated in an SRMU strike on these two days. Sources said around 150 TTEs had called in sick after orders were issued by officials not to take leave on those two days. While all other TTEs managed to get a medical certificate from the Perambur railway hospital, Kuberan was unable to procure that. He has been given 45 days to appeal his case.
