, were off the road in Tamil Nadu as truckers went on an indefinite strike in support of the demands of the South India Motor Transport Association (SIMTA).

SIMTA office-bearers said around 4.5 lakh trucks did not operate on Thursday leading to losses of more than a thousand crore. As the trucks went off roads, transportation of goods worth Rs 5, 000 crore was affected.

Tamil Nadu State Sand Lorry Owners’ Federation president S Yuvaraj said that 55,000 tipper lorries were also off the road.

Truckers in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka and Kerala and in the Union Territory of Puducherry took part in the strike.
