Tamil Nadu Congress Committee rejig on cards to regain lost ground

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) would launch a rally, covering 75km in each district, from August 9 to highlight the anti-people policies of the BJP government and strengthen the Congress in the state to regain its lost ground, said All India Congress Committee (AICC) member in-charge of Tamil Nadu, Dinesh Gundu Rao, at Mahabalipuram on Monday. The party would also undergo restructuring to give responsibilities to young and vibrant leaders, he said.
He was addressing a two-day Chinthan Shivir of about 250 Congress functionaries.They were engaged in group discussions and told to give suggestions to help the party grow in the state. Under four panels headed by MPs K Jeyakumar and M K Vishnu Prasad and MLAs S Vijayadharani and Mayura S Jayakumar, they discussed social justice, women and youth welfare, agriculture, politics, economy and party organisation.
“The workshop is aimed at creating a road map for the party. At the end of the workshop, we will formulate our strategies to go forward. The cadres will be told to reach the people and take up issues concerning common man. It is an effort to re-connect with the public,” said Rao.
Similar meetings and workshops would be held at district, block and panchayat levels to make the party’s vision clear among the cadres, he said.
Defining the role of Congress in the present scenario, Rao said it was the duty and responsibility of Congress party to counter the BJP, a “divisive and fascist force”. He said, “If we fail to stop the BJP, we will fail in our duty”.
TNCC president K S Alagiri appealed to cadres to hoist party flags on every street in the state. “If each cadre and functionary sticks to this resolution, it will reignite the party,” he said.
