TN schoolboy arrested for sexually assaulting, impregnating classmate

CUDDALORE: A 17-year-old boy was arrested on charges of sexually assaulting and impregnating a classmate in a village in Cuddalore district of Tamil Nadu.
Police said the boy and a 17-year-old girl studying in a government higher secondary school had been in love for the past three years. The boy invited her to a bund of a lake in the village and sexually assaulted her on March 19 this year.The girl became pregnant, and she confirmed her pregnancy using a pregnancy kit.
The girl told the boy that she was pregnant, and the boy suggested that she abort the foetus by natural means. The girl consumed papaya and pineapple laced with cakes made of black cumin seeds. She underwent abortion but suffered excessive bleeding.
Her parents admitted her to Vridhachalam Government General Hospital. She was later referred to Rajah Muthiah Medical College Hospital in Chidambaram.
The Vridhachalam all-woman police booked the minor boy under different sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act, 2012 and arrested him after the girl's parents lodged a complaint.
The police produced the boy before the juvenile justice board, which sent him to an observation home. It may be recalled that director general of police C Sylendra Babu had instructed police officers not to show haste in arresting boys under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act, 2012, in mutual romantic cases.
