Acting on a tip off, the police arrested the six men while they were waiting at the Kommuttur lake bus stop on the

Jamunamaruthur

- Alangaym Road to catch a bus.

The arrested have been identified as K Ganeshan, 37, of Yelavanputhur, his younger brother Ealumalai, 25, R Ponnusamy, 37, of Melvilamoochi , C Kuppusamy, 24, of Padamanjamarathur, T Sathiyaraj, 23, of Tirupathi Kalyanamandhai and G Prabhu, 23, of Periya Manjoor.

They have been booked under Section 399 of the IPC (Punishment for making preparation to commit dacoity) and remanded in judicial custody.

Red sanders smugglers engage woodcutters from Tamil Nadu to fell the precious trees in Andhra Pradesh forests. The Andhra Pradesh police have arrested several such woodcutters. In April 2015, the police gunned down 20 woodcutters.
