TN music teacher gets life sentence for murdering wife

TUTICORIN: A 41-year-old

music teacher

at the government music school in Tirunelveli was awarded life imprisonment for murdering his

wife

in 2015. The district mahila court here on Tuesday found A Julie Barath of Sivagiri in Tenkasi district guilty of murdering his wife Arunadevi.

Special public prosecutor V Subashini said that Barath and Arunadevi, belonging to different communities, got married in the year 2012. The couple lived in Vilathikulam close to the house where Arunadevi’s mother Vimala was living. In 2013, they begot a son, Jayaprakash. The couple frequently quarrelled over their place of stay as the wife preferred staying near her mother, while he wanted to relocate to Tirunelveli or Tenkasi.

Subashini said that around 11.30pm on November 7, 2015, he murdered her by stabbing her multiple times. The murder came to light the following day and based on a complaint lodged by Vimala, police arrested Barath and lodged him in jail. However, he came out on bail.

On completion of trial, the mahila court judge V Pandiaraja awarded life imprisonment to Barath and imposed 1,000 fine on him.
