TN is pioneer in differently abled welfare, says Stalin
Chennai: Chief minister M K Stalin said on Wednesday that the state was a pioneer in the country to ensure dignity for differently abled by providing them adequate representation and employment opportunities.Speaking at the centenary celebrations of Little Flower Convent Higher Secondary School for the visually and hearing impaired in Chennai, Stalin said his govt strengthened reservation and welfare measures for differently-abled persons. "Recently, we enacted legislation to ensure that differently-abled persons become local body representatives in over 13,000 village panchayats, which no other state did," Stalin said.

Highlighting the govt's support system, Stalin said scholarships for students with disabilities doubled under the `Dravidian model' govt. "50 differently-abled PhD scholars are being provided Rs 1 lakh each as financial assistance, while aspirants preparing for competitive examinations are offered free accommodation, food and specialised coaching. The state is also extending monthly assistance of Rs 2,000 to persons affected by autism," Stalin said.
On the support extended for para athletes, Stalin said, "The growing presence of Tamil Nadu athletes in the Paralympics and Asian Games is proof of the consistent govt support. Sportspersons such as Mariyappan Thangavelu, Thulasimathi Murugesan, Manisha Ramadoss and Nithyashri should be your inspirations."The chief minister said the govt stands firm with differently-abled students who are pursuing education. "Continue your education with confidence. Whatever support is required, this govt will provide," Stalin said.
