TN govt tells Ponn Manickavel to hand over idol theft case records to ADGP, Idol Wing CID

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu government on Friday issued an order to Idol Wing CID, special officer, Ponn Manickavel to hand over all the records/details pertaining to idol theft cases to Additional Director General of Police Abhay Kumar Singh.
This follows a communication from the director general of police/head of police force, J K Tripathy to the state government. “The government has examined the matter and decided to accept the proposal of the DGP/head of police force, Tamil Nadu,” said home secretary Niranjan Mardi in an order.
The retired official, Pon Manickavel was appointed as the special officer for Idol Wing CID with headquarters at Trichy from December 1, 2018 for a period of one-year up to November 30.
The ADGP, Idol Wing CID, CID on Thursday informed the state that tenure of the special officer was ending on November 30 and necessary orders may be issued to the effect that Ponn Manickavel may be directed to hand over all the records/details pertaining to the idol theft cases.
“The government directs that A G Ponn Manickavel, IPS (Retd), special officer, Idol Wing CID shall hand over all the records/details pertaining to cases and work done by him and by the special investigation team to Abhay Kumar Singh, ADGP, Idol Wing CID on November 30, as his tenure is expiring on November 30,” Mardi said.
Incidentally, home secretary Mardi retires on Saturday.
