TN govt seeks public suggestions on proposed cricket stadium in Coimbatore
COIMBATORE: The Tamil Nadu govt has invited the public to share their insights and suggestions for the proposed international cricket stadium and recreation centre at Ondipudur in Coimbatore.
Last year, chief minister M K Stalin announced plans to establish a state-of-the-art cricket stadium in the city, emphasising active public participation. This initiative was part of the party’s Lok Sabha election manifesto promises.
An official from the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT) said 30.36 acres of land, previously under the Coimbatore Central Prison Department at the open-air jail in Ondipudur, was handed over to the Youth Welfare and Sports Development Department. The proposed international cricket stadium will be built on this land, featuring a large parking facility and a seating capacity of at least 30,000.
“The detailed project report (DPR) for the stadium is at the final stage, and three design proposals have been approved by minister of youth welfare and sports development Udhayanidhi Stalin. Next week, SDAT member secretary Meghanatha Reddy will submit the DPR and the three designs to the chief minister, who will finalise the stadium’s design,” the official added.
On Tuesday, the state govt invited the public to participate in a user preference survey to contribute to the project’s design development. In its announcement, the govt stated, “Your feedback will help us shape this project and ensure it meets the needs and aspirations of our community. We request your valuable time of 5–10 minutes to complete the survey.”

Please don't look at the stadium in isolation. Include multi- level parking on both sides of the railway tracks with connecting over-brides. Bus stands should also be similarly designed. A connecting road from Avinashi road via the west-end of runway should be planned. An over-bridge from singanallur station should be planned. It should also house multiple swimming pools and gym, indoor games, etc. Please make it a complete development.Read allPost comment
