TN govt colleges may get new faculty members by June despite polls
Chennai: Despite the polls, teachers recruitment board (TRB) is planning to go ahead with the process of appointing 2,708 new assistant professors to govt arts and science colleges for the next academic year in June. The board has released the results of five subjects in the assistant professors recruitment exam. It may release the results of the remaining 43 subjects in the coming weeks. "The recruitment exam was conducted in Dec last year, and the first phase of written exam results were already declared. The board may release the written exam results for the remaining subjects in April," an official from TRB said.
The notification of the Tamil Nadu State Assembly elections is expected to be out next week. When the model code of conduct takes effect, the recruitment agency may not be able to issue any new notifications or make appointments."Since the recruitment exam has been conducted already, the board will make efforts to release the results of the written exam for other subjects after getting permission from the Election Commission of India. The shortlisted candidates will be called for interview. The final results are likely to be out after the elections," the official added.Govt arts and science colleges have large number of vacancies, as the govt did not fill the vacancies in the last 10 years. As of now, 8,741 guest lecturers are working in 175 govt arts and science colleges. As many as 42,064 candidates appeared for the written test conducted on Dec 27. Earlier, some candidates expressed concern about the descriptive-type paper in assistant professors' recruitment exam. To rule out any inflation in marks, the board is conducting double evaluation of answer scripts, and if there is a difference between the two evaluations, then a third evaluation of the answer sheet is also conducted, a source with the TRB said.
