Three students bring weapon to TN school to attack teacher, arrested

MADURAI: Nanguneri police on Thursday detained three Class XII students of a government school at Nanguneri in Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu after they brought a knife to school allegedly to attack one of their teachers. They were produced before the juvenile justice board and were sent to a government observation home at Palayamkottai.

According to police sources, the students had a dispute with one of their teachers over the marks. The students were upset that they were given lower marks in the class examinations.

They brought a knife to the school, but the teacher alerted Nanguneri police. Based on the information, police detained the students and seized the weapon from them.

Meanwhile, seven students of a private school were held by Valliyoor police after they attacked a Class XI student over prior enmity of forming a student union in the school. These seven students were produced before a JJ board and were given counselling.

The group of seven students from Class XI and Class XII thrashed the victim and pushed him to the ground in which the boy sustained an injury near the eye on Tuesday. The boy was taken to Radhapuram Government Hospital for treatment. He complained to the school management which summoned the parents of all the students.

After the Valliyoor police were alerted about the incident, they registered the case in CSR (Community Service Registrar) against the seven boys and produced them before the juvenile justice board for enquiry. The students were allowed to go home after counselling at the board, said police sources.

The senior officials denied any caste angle to the incident attributing to the enmity between the students over forming a student union in the school recently.

After the schools were opened for the academic year, a series of violent events involving students were reported from the schools in Valliyoor and Nanguneri regions of Tirunelveli district. Police officials have been visiting schools and holding talks with students.
