Earlier, the victim had informed his parents that he would return home after attending his friend's marriage at Kundrathur on April 22, though he did not.
Preliminary inquiries revealed that an anti-social, Senthamil Selvan, 24, of Palanthandalam, and two of his associates Bharath, 20, and Vimalraj, 25, both residents of Erumaiyur, took Deepak Raj to Erumaiyur, where they consumed liquor.
Following a quarrel, Senthamil Selvan and his friends murdered Deepak Raj.
Senthamil Selvan had murdered a person called Vijayan, also a resident of Palanthandalam, last year and was remanded in prison.
