Chennai: A 15-year-old boy, travelling with his family in a two-wheeler to attend the funeral of a relative was killed after an iron rod protruding from a truck pierced his throat after the two-wheeler rammed onto the truck on East coast road, near Thiruporur on Friday morning.
Around 8 am on Friday, Venkatesan, his wife, her younger brother and her son had set off from Thiruporur to attend the funeral.
Nishanth was made to sit in the front. Their two-wheeler was trailing a mini truck and when Venkatesan attempted to overtake the truck, he noticed a car coming from the opposite direction and applied brakes.
In the melee, Venkatesan’s bike rammed into the truck and an iron rod protruding from one of the hinges pierced the throat of Nishanth seated in the front, said a police officer.
The occupants of the bike escaped with injuries. Nishanth was rushed to Chengalpet government hospital, where he was declared dead. Sadras police have registered a case of causing death due to rash driving.
