Chennai: A confederation of teachers who cleared postgraduate exams conducted by the
Teachers Recruitment Board (TRB) in 2025 sought the govt to notify addendum vacancies and recruit candidates for PG teacher posts in govt schools across the state.
Addressing the press on Wednesday, the teachers said that more than two months passed since the govt filled 1,996 PG teacher posts with candidates who cleared the test in 2025. "After this recruitment, which happened in January, the govt must immediately notify addendum vacancies and commence the next cycle of recruitment. Instead of doing that, the govt is appointing temporary teachers," P Gnanambigai, a teacher, said.
According to the school education department, more than 3,500 temporary teachers taught in govt and aided schools across the state in 2024. "Such posts can be filled through PG teachers," the confederation said.
The PG TRB exam is held for the appointment of teachers to teach subjects such as physics, maths, chemistry and biology in higher secondary govt schools. While the exam was held annually between 2001 and 2010, it became biannual by 2020. After 2021, it was conducted only after a gap of nearly four years.
"Even though many of us work in schools, we need to be postgraduate teachers to reach the rank of headmasters. Several of us even write the exam at the age of 30, 40 and 50. It is high time we get recruited," the confederation said.
