CHENNAI: Police were quite lenient towards tipplers on day one of the reopening of Tasmac liquor shops. No case was registered against violators on Thursday though many from Chennai travelled to the neighboring districts to purchase alcohol.
Liquor shops reopened in the neighbouring districts of Chennai and in other parts of Tamil Nadu on Thursday morning after 42 days.

The city police wanted to prevent people from Chennai visiting Tasmac outlets in Kancheepuram, Chengalpet and Tiruvallur districts. North zone inspector-general of police (IGP) P Nagarajan had instructed his subordinates to initiate severe action against such people from the city limits.
“On day one, no case was filed against the violators. We were a little lenient today. We let them off with a strict warning,” said IGP Nagarajan.
