Tasmac liquor outlets record lower sales this New Year eve

Sale of liquor in the state-run Tasmac outlets came down in the Chennai and Salem region on December 31 compared to the corresponding date in 2017. Tasmac sources said sale of liquor to the tune of 34.

CHENNAI: Sale of liquor in the state-run Tasmac outlets came down in the Chennai and Salem region on December 31 compared to the corresponding date in 2017.
Tasmac sources said sale of liquor to the tune of 34.8 crore was recorded in Chennai region comprising the city, Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur districts. While more than 300 wine shops are operating in Chennai, nearly 400 outlets are located in Tiruvallur district.

According to sources, the sale dropped by 1.60 crore on Monday (December 31) when compared with the same day last year.
In the Salem region, the sale dipped by about 1 crore, sources said. However, the reason for poor sales could not be ascertained immediately.

Sources in Tasmac from Tiruvallur said business in the district was above normal. “The shops were shut due to a flash strike following an attack on a Tasmac employee in the district. The liquor outlets were reopened at 6pm on Monday but they recorded brisk sales in four hours till the closure time,” a Tasmac employee said.
