Tangedo has no commercial association with Adani Group: TN electricity minister
KARUR: State electricity minister V Senthil Balaji clarified on Thursday that Tamil Nadu power generation and distribution company Tangedco has maintained no commercial associations with the Adani Group in the past three years.
The electricity minister's statement follows the indictment of Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani and associates in a US court regarding allegations of conspiring to bribe Indian government officials to secure solar power supply contracts in various states in India.
"I have come across reports circulating on social media concerning a case filed against the Adani Group in the United States. While numerous states are referenced in the reports, Tamil Nadu's mention appears in merely a single line. I wish to emphasise that the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board has conducted no commercial dealings with the Adani Group for the past three years," minister Senthil Balaji told the reporters.
The minister disclosed that arrangements had been established with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI), a central government agency, to procure 1,500 megawatts of power to fulfil Tamil Nadu's electricity demands.
"The corporation supervises agreements with producers and negotiates tariffs after evaluating various states' requirements. Individuals sharing information on social media ought to verify these particulars before making assertions. We stand ready to provide additional clarification if sought, either through me or electricity department officials," the minister said. An agreement was secured at Rs 2.61 per unit, substantially lower than the Rs 7.01 per unit rate during the AIADMK administration, he added.
