Tamil Nadu village festival to be held from December 25 to 29

CHENNAI: Tamil Malar Kalai Kuzhu will perform folk dances such as Paraiattam, Silambattam, Oyilattam and Kolattam at DakshinaChitra in Muttukadu from December 25 to 29. Karnataka Janapada Kamsale Kalavidara Sangha will perform Kamsale (a 11th Century cymbal-like

percussion instrument

) from January 1 to 5. Kamsale is played by dancers as an offering to lord Mahadeshwara. Since Kamsale is the main instrument, the dance eventually got its name. As part of the Andhra village festival, to be held from January 8 to 12, Indira Nruthya Academy will perform Bonalu dance.

Besides, this troupe will also perform some folk songs that have been passed on to them by their forefathers. The Kerala village festival will be held from January 22 to 26 with traditional dance forms like Thiruvathira,

Oppana

and Margamkali. There are traditional games and bullock cart rides available for the visitors. A street food festival will also be organised as part of the month-long event.
