CHENNAI: A 52-year-old man was found dead inside the Tiruttani temple tank on Wednesday.
Police who fished out the body identified him as Mayilsamy, 52 of Ambattur.
A few devotees who came to take a bath in the tank alerted temple authorities upon seeing the body. Police and fire services personnel fished out the body and sent it for a post-mortem.
Mayilsamy's phone, Aadhar card and his clothes were found outside the temple tank. Police are probing if the man drowned accidentally or it was case of suicide.
At least four people have died in the temple tank this year due to drowning or suicide, authorities said.
Devotees have appealed to authorities to keep an eye on devotees visiting the temple tank. The temple authorities have asked elderly devotees not to step deep inside the tank.
