Tamil Nadu govt urged to ensure uninterrupted power and water supply

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu government should give attention to electricity and water demands in the state in summer and ensure uninterrupted power supply for agriculture and domestic use, Tamil Maanila Congress president G K Vasan said on Tuesday.


In a statement, Vasan said people from all sections of life were affected due to drinking water shortage and interrupted power supply. “Not just in the cities, but even in rural areas, people are facing difficulties. Normal life was disrupted,” he said.

He said drawing water for drinking and agriculture was affected due to interrupted power supply. “Usually, farmers depend on groundwater for agriculture. Three phase power supply is not available for agriculture, and farmers are not able to irrigate their crops. Hence, uninterrupted three phase power supply should be ensured for a minimum of 16 years,” he said.

Awareness should be created on the judicious use of water, he said. People should be informed about when to use motors, light and others, he said.
