CHENNAI: Manithaneya Makkal Katchi (MMK) on Friday surrendered Ulundurpet constituency to alliance leader DMK as the party found it difficult to field a candidate here for the May 16 Tamil Nadu assembly election.

The DMK had allotted MMK five constituencies -- Thondamuthur in Coimbatore, Ambur, Ramanathapuram, Nagapattinam and Ulundurpet.

After MMK, headed by M H Jawairullah, surrendered the Ulundurpet constituency, DMK decided to field its candidate G R Vasanthavel B E here.

A statement issued by DMK said the change had been effected as MMK expressed its inability to contest in Ulundurpet.
