Tamil Nadu assembly polls 2026: Modi says ‘Our govt’ will take stern action against corruption in TN
Chennai: In a virtual interaction with state BJP ‘karyakartas' on Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said some ministers are facing corruption cases in Tamil Nadu and that corruption has become embedded in the system. "I assure you that once our govt is formed, strict action will be taken. No one involved will be spared," he said.Modi said there was widespread anger among families in the state over corruption. "Every govt department has turned into a centre for collection," he said, adding that people are viewing the NDA as a force of change in TN, which would end corruption. He credited party workers for creating a new political environment through sustained outreach at the grassroots to bring this change. He called upon workers to strengthen booth-level mobilisation, meet each family multiple times and ensure higher voter turnout, as electoral outcomes would depend on consistent engagement and communication at the local level.Responding to Ranjith Kumar, a BJP worker from Tiruvannamalai, on TN getting Vande Bharat trains, Modi said the state did not receive major projects in the past despite DMK being part of Central govt. However, NDA govt has implemented projects across railways, highways, ports and airports, and completed works such as the Pamban bridge redevelopment and 11 new medical colleges, he said.Kalairaj from Virudhunagar said beneficiaries often feel central schemes are not reaching them at the state level and that people believe alignment between the Centre and the state would ensure complete delivery of benefits. Modi responded that Centre has transferred funds directly to beneficiaries under schemes such as ‘PM-Kisan' and crop insurance, and added that gaps in surveys and implementation have prevented some eligible families from receiving housing benefits."Workers should hold focused meetings with women, record beneficiary experiences and share them widely, while stating that safety concerns and drug networks are affecting families and require sustained engagement at the ground level," said Modi, responding to Ramya from Coimbatore who alleged there was increase in drug peddling and lack of safety for women. When Modi asked about issues that can be taken up during the 2026 rallies, Ramesh from the Nilgiris said voters are questioning the status of ‘unfulfilled' poll promises of DMK related to financial assistance and monthly electricity billing cycles.
