CHENNAI:
Tamil Nadu's advocate general
A L Somayaji
resigned from his post on Friday. "He submitted his resignation to the government today," said sources close to the genial senior advocate who had had an eventful stint as advocate general for nearly four years.
Somayaji was appointed advocate general on March 7, 2013 after a brief stint as additional advocate general when the present AIADMK Rajya Sabha member A Navaneethakrishnan was advocate general of the state.
Somayaji had held the post of additional advocate general during the latter half of chief minister Jayalalithaa's 2001-2006 regime.
Though senior lawyer R Muthukumaraswamy is tipped to succeed Somayaji as the next advocate general of Tamil Nadu, official confirmation is yet to come. This, however, has not deterred his well-wishers from calling his office or visiting the designated senior counsel in person to congratulate him.
