Tambaram police take out helmet awareness rally
CHENNAI: The Tambaram Police Commissionerate, in collaboration with Gleneagles Hospital Chennai, conducted a helmet awareness rally on Saturday to enhance road safety and spread awareness about the dangers of head injuries.
The rally began and concluded at the Indian Maritime University in Uthandi, covering a 16km stretch on the East Coast Road up to Kovalam Junction and back.
The aim was to emphasize the life-saving importance of wearing helmets, especially for two-wheeler riders.
The rally was flagged off by Tambaram police commissioner Abin Dinesh Modak, who reiterated the force’s commitment to reducing road fatalities.
He was joined by senior officers including additional commissioner of police (Tambaram) C Maheshwari and deputy commissioner – traffic (Tambaram) Samay Singh Meena. Dr Nigil Peter Symms, head of neuro surgery at Gleneagles Hospital, was present.
The initiative includes the distribution of 1,000 helmets over the next 10 days to riders found travelling without protective headgear. Authorities hope this move will not only serve as a deterrent but also as a direct intervention to save lives.
