Chennai to host ‘Sustainability Festival’

CHENNAI: India Handmade Collective (IHMC), Safe Food Alliance, OFM and Mission Sammridhi have come together to conduct a ‘Sustainability Festival’ at the Thakkar Bapa Vidyalaya in Chennai’s T Nagar from August 5 to 7.


The festival is being organised to mark National Handloom Day, which is usually celebrated on August 7.

IHMC is a Handmade Artisans Collective that came together in November 2020 post the lockdown. It was created to give a helping hand to struggling artisans. IHMC’s partners consists of groups of brands, which procure khaddar or chemical free natural dye garments or organic cotton from weavers, or source sustainable handmade products.

The event will also feature talks, workshops and interactive sessions. It will be inaugurated on August 5 by Tamil Nadu environment minister Siva V Meyyanathan, actor Revathy, Crafts Council of India chairwoman Gita Ram and designer Poornima Ramaswamy,.

There will also be a seed exchange programme initiated by Exnora International president Senthur Pari and Alladi Mahadevan of ‘Grow your Own Veggies’ group.
