Suspecting fidelity, astrologer stabs wife to death, flees

Chennai: An astrologer murdered his wife, suspecting her fidelity, at Sriperumbudur on Wednesday. Police have launched a hunt for the suspect.

Police said Maharajan, a resident of Soppanacheri village near Padappai in Kancheepuram, was working as a temple priest. He stayed with his wife Karuthammal and their three-year-old son. The couple got married four years ago.

On Wednesday night, Maharajan and Karuthammal got into an argument. In a fit of rage, the man stabbed his wife with a kitchen knife. Hearing her cries, the neighbours rushed to the house, but Maharajan had fled by then. Karuthammal was rushed to the hospital where she was declared dead on arrival. The Manimangalam police have registered a case and further investigations are on.
