, was remanded in judicial custody till October 11 by the Alandur court on Saturday. Police also nabbed Jayagopal’s brother-in-law Meghanathan and are set to produce him before a magistrate on Sunday.

Police said it was Meghanathan who erected the banners on the instructions of Jayagopal. On September 12, Subashree, who was riding her scooter on the Thoraipakkam-Pallavaram Road in Pallikaranai, was thrown off her two-wheeler and run over by a tanker after one of the illegal banners fell on her.

On Saturday morning, the Pallikaranai police arrested four wage workers who set up the banners for Jayagopal, but court advised police to release them on station bail.

Police arrested the tanker driver and booked Jayagopal who went missing since that day. Police formed two teams to look for Jayagopal and his brother-in-law Meghanathan. Police arrested Jayagopal on Friday from a resort in Krishnagiri. He was taken to the Pallikaranai police station for inquiry and later handed over to the St Thomas Mount traffic officials.
