Students sent on leave, exams postponed

CHENNAI: In light of the unrest at Sathyabama University campus on Wednesday, the institution declared leave to all students from Thursday until January 2. Originally, the holidays were scheduled from December 2 to January 2.
A couple of pending examinations have also been pushed to January. "Many hostel students vacated the premises early morning. The remaining exams will be conducted once the college reopens," said a university official.
Officials said many of the students who had indulged in violence had joined the mob without knowing the reason behind it. The father of the deceased student Duvvuru Monica Reddy said, "The college could have saved my daughter, had they let my son inside the hostel." Semmench- ery police registered a case against unknown people based on a complaint from the college authorities.
