Statue of Unity' at Kevadiya in Gujarat carries a wrong Tamil translation.
'Statue of Unity' should ideally be translated into 'Ottrumaikana Silai' (ஒற்றுமைக்கானசிலை). But it has been mistranslated as 'Stateku oppi Unity' (ஸ்டேட்டுக்கே ஓப்பியூனிட்டி) and this doesn't make any sense.
It was a major embarrassment for the government which used a tape to hide the glaring mistake.
Twitterati started making fun of the government for its failed translation effort.
The name board carries translations of the phrase 'Statue of Unity' in 10 different languages including Hindi, Gujarati and French.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the statue on Wednesday morning. A total of Rs 3,000 crore was spent by the government to construct the world's tallest statue (182 m).
