Tamil Nadu govt deposits Rs 2,000 to 37 lakh vulnerable beneficiaries with March pensions
CHENNAI: The state government on Tuesday sprang an early-morning surprise by depositing Rs 2,000 for vulnerable groups, including senior citizens, widows, elderly transgender persons, and differently-abled individuals receiving monthly pensions. The amount has been credited along with the March month assistance.
Recalling that the government had recently provided Rs 2,000 as a special summer incentive under the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai (KMUT) scheme for eligible women, chief minister MK Stalin said on X that similar demands had been raised by those living on the margins and dependent on social security pensions. “We have fulfilled that request with confidence,” he added.
Accordingly, 29.29 lakh beneficiaries, including senior citizens and widows covered under various social security schemes, have received Rs 3,200 each (inclusive of the monthly pension and special relief). About 5.92 lakh persons with disabilities have been credited Rs 3,500 each, while 2.58 lakh families of persons with severe disabilities receiving maintenance assistance have received Rs 4,000 each.
Stalin also said that 1.62 lakh fishermen families are being provided Rs 8,000 per family as fishing ban period assistance for April to June.
In addition, 14,870 tea farmers in Nilgiris district will benefit from a Rs 8.53 crore support package, with an incentive of Rs 2 per kg for green tea leaves procured through 15 cooperative tea factories.
Reiterating his government’s commitment, the Chief Minister said no one would be left behind in the state’s development journey.
