Stalin visits cyclone Gaja-hit fishing hamlets in Nagapattinam, distributes essential commodities

NAGAPATTINAM: A day after cyclone Gaja wreaked havoc in Tamil Nadu, DMK president M K Stalin on Saturday visited the fishing hamlets and other cyclone hit villages in Nagapattinam district.

After interacting with the fishermen of Tharangambadi town where boats and fishing gear were damaged in the cyclone on Friday, the leader of the opposition reached the Akkaraipettai fishing hamlet near Nagapattinam town.

Representatives of fishing community submitted petitions to Stalin demanding financial aid for repairing the damaged vessels as well as compensation for the loss of fishing gear.

Stalin distributed essential commodities to the people in coastal hamlets. The DMK president is likely to visit Vedaranyam and other cyclone-hit localities in the delta districts later in the day.

People of Samanthanpettai fishing hamlet, who are housed in a shelter near Nagore, staged to road roko protest on Saturday morning alleging that they were not provided food and water.
