In a tweet, Stalin demanded the social media organisation lift the temporary ban imposed on the accounts of Seeman and Thirumurugan Gandhi. “I condemn the move to withhold the accounts of Seeman and brother Thirumurugan Gandhi. Ideas should be confronted with ideas and should not be strangled,” he wrote.

“The temporary ban imposed on their accounts should be lifted, and social media should be permitted to function according to its standards,” said Stalin.

Twitter on Wednesday ‘withheld in India’ the accounts of Seeman, Thirumurugan Gandhi and more than 20 NTK members “in response to a legal demand” minutes after Seeman posted a statement on the protesting women wrestlers in Delhi and their announcement to throw their medals into the river Ganga.

MDMK headquarters secretary Durai Vaiko tweeted, “It is not good for democracy to unleash oppression. Ideas should be fought with ideas.”

Meanwhile, Seeman opened a new account on Twitter named ‘Senthamizhan Seeman’ and thanked Stalin for his support. “It is a shame that the Modi government which placed the ‘sengol’ is suppressing the right to speech,” he said.
