Stalin launches work for turtle conservation centre in Chennai
Chennai: Chief minister M K Stalin on Friday laid the foundation stone for a sea turtle conservation centre at Children's Park in Guindy. The centre will provide specialised infrastructure for scientific research, telemetry, monitoring and centralised data management, function as a training and capacity-building hub, serve as a public education and outreach platform, and act as a nodal institution for inter-departmental coordination and technical expertise, said a release. The centre will strengthen institutional capacity and address the growing scientific and operational complexity of marine turtle conservation, it said. The centre is being established under the Tamil Nadu Sustainably Harnessing Ocean Resources and Blue Economy (TN-SHORE) Project, a World Bank-aided project, as a Centre of Excellence at a cost of 14.5 crore.
