CHENNAI: The Election Commission has seized a sum of Rs 48.76 lakh unaccounted money during vehicle checks ahead of the February 13 assembly byelection in Srirangam.
Based on the instructions of the special election observer, 25 flying squads had been deployed and 17,250 vehicles had been checked, chief electoral officer Sandeep Saxena said in a release on Tuesday.
The district control room in Trichy received 134 complaints through a toll-free number, 1800 425 7030.

A 24x7 control room was set up at the CEO’s office for registering complaints from the public through the toll-free number 1950, and 21 complaints had been received and communicated to the district election officer for appropriate action, said the CEO.
The Election Commission has been in the process of using the modern communication technologies to upgrade the conduct of elections across the country.
It recently launched an Android app -- TN Citizen Poll Watch – to help voters file complaints.
A person who wants to file a complaint will have to visit thewebsite of the Tamil Nadu chief electoral officer and then click on the ‘Complaints Registration’ link.
