Chennai: International Masters LR Srihari, S Nitin, Srijit Paul were among the leaders with 4 points from as many rounds in the ongoing 13th Chennai Open International Grandmaster chess tournament here on Tuesday.
The prominent international names to also be on 4 points include -- top seed Boris Savchenko from Russia, Stupak Kirill (Belarus), Baghdasaryan Vahe (Armenia) and Abdyjapar Asyl (Kyrgyzstan).
Joint leaders Srihari, Nitin and Srijit got the better of Arjun Tiwari (India), Luong Phuong Hanh, Nguyen Thanh Thuy Tien (both from Vietnam) respectively.
B Vignesh caused the upset of the day when he defeated GM Nguyen Van Huy of Vietnam in the fourth round. In what was a quiet middle game, Huy overlooked an intervening check and his position subsequently crumbled as he lost in 33 moves.
Vignesh had been in good form as he drew Fedorov Alexei from Belarus in the third round. The third round in the tournament, which concluded late on Monday, saw IM Aronyak Ghosh (Elo 2494) going down to Vietnamese WIM Nguyen Thanh Thuy Tien (Elo 1996) in the third round.
