Six killed, nine injured in two mishaps

Six persons including a woman were killed and nine others were injured in two accidents near Ulundurpet in Villupuram district in the wee hours of Tuesday.

VILLUPURAM: Six persons including a woman were killed and nine others were injured in two accidents near Ulundurpet in Villupuram district in the wee hours of Tuesday.
One of the mishaps involved 12 people from Krishnagiri district, who were going on a pilgrimage to Kumbakonam in a Tata Sumo on Monday night. When the vehicle crossed Mettukuppam near Ulundurpet around 2am, the driver lost control of the vehicle and it rammed into a stationary lorry.
Three passengers K Chinnaraj (58), K Kuselan (42) and K Venkatammal (70) died on the spot while nine others sustained severe injuries.

Highway patrol and local police rushed the injured to Villupuram government medical college.
In another accident, three persons were crushed to death when their bike was hit by a speeding jeep near Ulundurpet on Tuesday morning. The deceased were identified as labourers, R Maduraiveeran (42) and A Poomalai (28) from Poomanpakkam and K Balu (42) from Nagarmannarkudi. They were going home after late-night work when the mishap took place.
The jeep turned turtle in the impact and the driver has gone hiding. Ulundurpet police have registered a case against the driver and a search is on to locate him.
