SALEM: A K Giri on Wednesday ordered of six men -- who were in connection with a murder case -- under the Goondas Act.
The commissioner ordered detention of S Kaliyappan, Thangaraj, Ilango, Surya, Prakash and Kavinesh under the Goondas Act. They were among 13 people who were arrested in connection with the murder of V Mohanraj of Vedukathampatty.
The murder was the fallout of a conflict between Mohanraj and Kaliyappan during a temple festival at Vedukathampatty.
On Sept 16, Mohanraj and his friend, Arun Kumar, were kidnapped from their houses by a gang of more than 13 people. They assaulted Mohanraj and Arun Kumar. Mohanraj died. Arun Kumar was injured.
The Salem Steel Plant police registered a murder case and arrested 13 suspects. Steel Plant police station inspector Chinnathangam and deputy commissioner of the Salem city police headquarters T Geetha advised commissioner Anil Kumar Giri to detain six of them under the Prevention of Goondas Act, based on which the commissioner ordered their detention.
