CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami has come under attack for his remarks on actor
Sivaji Ganesan while he was hitting out at actors Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan for their political ambitions.
“Only when actors become old they think of entering politics. Actor Sivaji Ganesan was a better actor. But he could not succeed in politics. Actors wanting to enter politics will do well to remember the fate Sivaji faced, after launching his own party,” Palaniswami told reporters near Salem on Tuesday.
The chief minister’s reference to Sivaji irked his fans. “While chief minister has said that actors launch political parties only when they become old, it seems he is referring to MGR also. It is high time someone informed chief minister Palaniswami that when AIADMK and Congress were in alliance in the past, Sivaji Ganesan had extensively campaigned for the victory of several AIADMK candidates,” said Sivaji Social Welfare Association president K Chandhrasekaran in a statement.
“An accidental chief minister has no right to comment on Sivaji Ganesan, who valued self-respect more and did not seek any position from anyone. Sivaji wanted MGR’s government to continue under the leadership of Janaki MGR. That is why he had launched a political party but faced defeat in the bargain,” Chandhrasekaran said.
